The Governor’s Office of Homeland and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) offers these courses free to the public.  The GOHSEP Academy partners with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to offer courses in Abdalla Hall through the NIMSAT Institute, an emergency preparedness research center on campus.

They consist of varying topics facilitating refinement in processes critical for community efficiency and resiliency. We encourage you to share these upcoming opportunities with the appropriate partners and stakeholders to maintain and build capabilities within your communities. Make your reservations as soon as possible. All courses will be available in the STEMS portal and are being added monthly.

June 24 – 25: Public Information Officers in Action *New* 

Deadline for Lodging/Meals: June 17, 2025

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of public information officers and best practices for clear, concise and trustworthy emergency messaging.  Participants will receive foundational and practical knowledge in the following subjects and topics:

  • Statements for Inquiries
  • Press briefings and interviews
  • Social Media Strategies
  • Coordinating Communication

July 8 – 9: Public Assistance – From Assessment to Closeout 

Deadline for Lodging/Meals: July 2, 2025

July 8, 2025  12 PM - 4 PM

July 9, 2025   8AM - 12 PM

This course offers a practicum in the FEMA Public Assistance Process from obtaining a declaration through final close out of the grant. By the end of the course, participants will have a strong understanding of the PA process from beginning to end in order to more efficiently help their communities recover post disaster.
